Composition Of Alloy
Our rolled zinc is alloyed with copper and titanium to produce a material with optimum mechanical and physical characteristics for building applications, particularly with regard to mechanical resistance and creep resistance.
It is composed of very high quality zinc Z1 (99,995% pure zinc), as defined by the EN 1179 standard, to which titanium and copper are added. Copper increases the mechanical resistance of the alloy, making it harder and stronger.
Titanium increases creep resistance permitting greater thermal expansion and contraction, of the material without causing metal fatigue.
The European Standard EN 988 has been applied since 1997 in 18 European countries. This standard imposes very stringent specifications for the composition of rolled zinc and its physical, mechanical and dimensional characteristics, which make it an international reference.
When the zinc leaves the rolling mill it has a shiny, metallic surface appearance which changes over time as a natural, semi-mat, light grey patina is formed in contact with the atmosphere. The natural light grey zinc has a textured, luminous quality that evokes the world of minerals. It enhances the appearance of the building from the very first day and for years to come.

QUARTZ-ZINC is obtained by immersing Natural zinc by VMZINC in a solution which modifies the crystalline structure of the surface of the metal at a thickness of approximately one micron. This treatment is a durable chemical conversion of the surface structure of the metal. This is not a finish but a genuine, long-lasting treatment of the surface.
The velvet grey tones of QUARTZ-ZINC and its structural flexibility bring out the character of a building from the outset. Appreciated for refurbishment, its natural-looking colour blends well with other existing construction materials.
Pre-weathered QUARTZ-ZINC is produced using a surface treatment on Natural zinc by VMZINC. The pre-weathering treatment completed at the plant gradually evolves and coalesces over time with the naturally formed zinc patina. To ensure a consistent finish we recommend profiling and installing the components of a new project using a parent coil.

The PIGMENTO range is produced by adding mineral pigments to a QUARTZ-ZINC substrate. This substrate is preweathered zinc which from the beginning has an aspect and texture very close to the patina of natural zinc after a few months exposure to air.
The natural texture and colours of PIGMENTO, its nuances constantly changing with the light, reflect an organic and mineral universe. It inspires new ideas and blends perfectly with other materials.

European Standard EN988
VMZINC products, marked with ink, comply with European standard EN 988. This standard imposes very strict specifications for the composition of rolled zinc and its physical, mechanical and dimensional characteristics.
For more than a decade, VMZINC has been actively committed to improving the quality of its products and services. Products are subjected to increasingly stringent tests on flatness, stamping and chemical composition by neutral testing institutes.
Our administrative and production sites are ISO 9001 certified for both products and services.
Our 3 main production sites are ISO 14000 certified for the quality of their environmental protection policy.
All products laminated by elZinc surpass the requirements of the EN988 standard including the finished band and sheets as well as the different components of alloying metals.
The alloying components are zinc with an initial minimum purity of 99,995% according to the EN1179 standard, with precisely defined additions of copper and titanium.
ElZinc´s zinc titanium has been optimised for use in construction applications. The inicial stage is a process of lamination designed specially for alloying elZinc which requires perfect control of temperature during its production.
elZinc’s products are characterized by:
– High malleability, regardless of the direction of rolling
– High stability once conformed
– Optimal electrowelding performance due to its low surface oil content
– Limited fragility at low temperatures.

RHEINZINK is a trade name for titanium zinc, manufactured to DIN EN 988. Electrolytically refined zinc with a 99.995% degree of purity as defined by DIN EN 1179 serves as the basis for the alloy, which also includes small yet precise amounts of copper and titanium. The composition of the alloy is one of the factors determining the technological properties of the material – as well as the colour of the RHEINZINK patina.
The raw material is melted, cast and wound onto a steel sleeve in a single continuous operation. The quality of this material is uniform and flawless. These coils are then used for further processing as a universal source material to produce RHEINZINK’s high-quality roof drainage programme, pre-fabricated parts for roofing applications and facade cladding including the necessary building profiles.
